A Message from Smooth Moves Ranch: Looking Ahead to 2025

Hey everyone,

We wanted to take a moment to address some of the conversations and comments we’ve seen circulating lately. First and foremost, we started this page—and the Heather and Tim page—back during the early days of COVID as a way to connect with people, share positivity, and create a safe space to learn about Paso Fino horses without judgment. From day one, we’ve stayed away from politics and haven’t pushed personal beliefs, because our focus has always been about community, respect, and love for these amazing animals.

Over the years, this platform has grown into something much bigger than we ever expected. It’s become a place to share our dream of starting an equine-assisted therapy program. Together, we’ve done some amazing things—like naming contests, raising money to bring Tanka home, and working toward expanding the barn to make Smooth Moves Ranch Wellness Center a reality.

However, as we’ve worked to refocus our efforts and downsize our daily operations to prioritize building this therapy center, we’ve also noticed some negativity. While most of you have been supportive (thank you!), we’ve had to deal with hurtful messages when we’ve rehomed animals or haven’t been able to go live as often as some might like. Running a ranch is hard work, and we can’t keep every foal or animal born here—we need to be sustainable, and that often means selling livestock, including horses, cattle, and goats.

To be clear: every time we rehome a horse, we always make sure they go to the best possible home. Sometimes new owners are happy to share updates on social media, and sometimes they prefer privacy. Unfortunately, the negativity we’ve received has made some of them hesitant to share.

Despite this, we’re moving forward with our mission! We’re thrilled to announce that SMR Wellness Center, Inc. is now officially incorporated as a nonprofit, and we’ve received our EIN from the IRS. We’re in the process of applying for 501(c)(3) status, and we’re committed to making this dream a reality—a place where healing through animals can truly make a difference.

Building this center means we need to focus our resources. We plan to enclose the riding area, make improvements across the ranch, and ensure our herd stays manageable (under 10 horses) until the therapy center grows and we have more volunteers to help. Some foals will stay with us, and others will find new homes, but every decision is made with the best interest of the animals in mind.

On top of that, both Heather and I are heading back to school! Heather is working toward a Master’s in Psychology, and I’m pursuing a BS in Animal Assisted Therapy to complement our vision for the Wellness Center (no master’s for me, though—I’ve had enough school for a lifetime!).

As we step into 2025, our focus will remain on positivity, family, and building the SMR Wellness Center into a safe, welcoming space for healing. Our live schedule may be more flexible as we balance school, ranch work, and the Wellness Center, but we hope you’ll continue to support and grow with us.

Thank you for being part of this journey. We’re excited about what’s ahead, and we’re so grateful for your understanding and encouragement. Let’s make 2025 a great year for the SMR family!

With love,

Tim & Heather
